The Wizarding World Venue follows an Open Play ideology.
As such plot events are more in the hands of players rather than any appointed storytellers. This also means that the venue is more freeform in character creation, though character approval is still required. Because of this characters in order to travel to other venue areas, special permission is required from that venues admin as certain characters will not be appropriate outside of Open Play areas where centralised or personal run plot may be affected.
Please keep this in mind when creating your character.

Creation Rules for The Wizarding World

The venue is focused around the city of London.
When creating your character, you may consider anything from the wider Harry Potter or OWoD universes as long as it would be appropriate for them to reside and travel around London. Similarly, they should be able and willing to communicate and interact with other characters for obvious reasons.

Adult Wizards are likely to be common (especially as the majority of students graduating from the Hogwarts venue are likely to move here).
It should be noted that while Apparition is perfectly accessible to all character that pass their tests (which doesn't include all adult wizards), using the magic to cross to other countries or other long distances is extremely difficult. The floo network is far more secure when travelling to different places within the United Kingdom while registered Portkey's or muggle transportation is typically used to travel abroad.

The Magical World in the current day

Following the defeat of Voldemort and the end of the second wizarding war, Wizardingkind sought to return things to as they were while also attempting to make up for suffering caused in the war itself. Over the years things progressed with muggle-borns returning to Hogwarts and seats on the International Confederation of Wizardy bring offered to representatives of other supernatural groups. For awhile things were looking good, despite the attempted actions of a few remaining dark sympathisers. As the atrocities of the war are forgotten, so are the lessons learnt however. Old views and prejudices return to light, spurred on by difficulties with certain supernatural groups and the voices of the pureblood families.

The British Ministry of Magic

Current Minister of Magic: Hermoine Granger-Weasley
Recently appointed in 2017, Hermoine is making it her sworn duty to grant improved rights to everyone in the magical world, including Wizards, Muggles and magical creatures. Those who oppose the prejudices of old hold her in high regard.

Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement: Harry Potter
The most famous wizard of our time (some would say in history). Harry was promoted to his current position in 2017 following ten years as Head of the Auror Offices.

Wizarding Law

Note: While characters may be Open Play, there is still a large Wizarding presense in London which should be considered. Wizards to police other races on this.
The International Statute of Secrecy exists to safeguard wizarding communities from Muggles while hiding their presense across the globe. This means that Wizards are all expected to maintain secrecy from Muggles, typically by wiping their memories. It does not extend to magical or supernatural groups, including 'Mythos influenced Muggles'. Those who break this law are likely to face prosecution and potentially jail time in Azkaban (now guarded by a staff of Aurors rather than Dementors).

The Accord is a more recent agreement, signed in 2010, that extends protection to other magical and supernatural races. The Vampires have their masquerade while the Garou talk of their Veil. 'Mythos influence Muggles' similarly wish to safeguard a great many secrets. The Accord exists to help all involved protect each others secrets and to reduce conflict between associated parties since that may attact muggle attention.

Wizarding society like any society has a number of other laws, forbidding theft, assault, the trade of forbidden goods (including Vampire blood), the use of Unforgivable Curses and more. All these are enforced by the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Other Magical Agencies

MACUSA
The Magical Congress of the United States of America still governs the Wizarding World across the atlantic. They are generally seen as behind the times compared to the British Ministry as they still struggle to find ways to deal with local supernatural groups which despite efforts still seem to be waging a guerrilla based war with each other.

International Confederation of Wizardry
The intergovernmental organisation tasked with promoting international cooperation.
